Foods to eat during a Crohn's flare
When inflammation is active, many people focus on easy-to-digest meals and fluids. These are general patterns, not rules that apply to everyone.
Often easier to tolerate
Soft fruits (bananas, applesauce), refined grains (white rice, plain pasta), broth-based soups, eggs, tofu, and lean poultry or fish are frequent choices in patient education materials.
Hydration
Water, oral rehydration solutions, broth, and herbal teas may help when fluid losses are higher. Limit caffeine and alcohol if they worsen symptoms.
Practical tips
- Eat smaller, more frequent meals if large portions trigger discomfort
- Avoid known personal triggers even if they are healthy for others
Common questions
Can diet stop a Crohn's flare?
Diet alone does not treat inflammation. Medication and medical care from your IBD team are essential; food choices may reduce irritation while you recover.
