Social drinking and coffee are part of daily life. With IBD, tolerance varies. Some people notice urgency or cramping after beer or wine, especially during flares or with certain medications.
Alcohol considerations
- Dehydration risk if diarrhea is active
- Medication interactions: ask your pharmacist or GI
- Liver monitoring if on methotrexate or other drugs
Caffeine considerations
Coffee can stimulate the bowel. For some, that means urgency; for others, no change. Track your own pattern rather than following generic bans.
