Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition in which insulin-producing cells are damaged. It is not the same as type 2 diabetes, though both need medical management. This page is for orientation, not insulin dosing or carb counting plans.

Why autoimmune framing matters

People with one autoimmune diagnosis sometimes watch for others. Gut inflammation, celiac disease, and thyroid autoimmunity can appear in overlapping family or personal histories. Screening decisions belong with clinicians.
