Stress can worsen pain perception, sleep, and coping capacity. That does not mean stress alone caused an autoimmune disease. Blaming patients for "not relaxing enough" is neither accurate nor useful.
Helpful framing
- Treat medical disease activity and mental health as partners, not rivals
- Use short coping tools on hard days without abandoning therapy
- Ask about sleep, depression, and anxiety when fatigue dominates
Practical reading: stress coping strategies, depression and anxiety in IBD, fatigue across autoimmune life.
